Organizations that are exempt from federal taxes are automatically exempt from North Dakota income taxes.
HOW TO OBTAIN NORTH DAKOTA SALES TAX EXEMPTION:
Generally, nonprofit organizations are not exempt from paying sales taxes on personal property.
Note Exceptions: schools, nursing homes and hospitals. In some cases, nonprofits are also exempt from collecting sales tax on sales that would otherwise be taxable.
HOW TO REGISTER WITH THE NORTH DAKOTA STATE’S SECRETARY OF STATE:
File the Charitable Organization Statement here, together with: A financial statement or most recent Form 990
Note that this filing must be done prior to soliciting in North Dakota.
